In this lesson, we’ll go over

• how negative commands work
• practice with an applied exercise

In order to get a negative command, take the positive command and simply put NE – NE becomes N’ before a vowel – before the command verb and add PAS after the command verb, such as in the following examples.

• Regarde la télé.
  • Watch TV.
• Ne regarde pas la télé.
  • Don’t watch TV.

• Écoute la radio.
  • Listen to the radio.
• N’écoute pas la radio.
  • Don’t listen to the radio.

1. Ne parlez pas si vite, s’il vous plait.

4. N’y pense plus. N’y pensez plus.
5. Ne raconte rien à personne. Ne racontez rien à personne.

English

1. Please don’t speak so fast. (vous form)
2. Don’t eat too much cake.
3. Don’t drive at night.
4. Don’t think about it anymore. (tu and vous forms)
5. Don’t tell anything to anyone. (tu and vous forms)
