Peter Orner teaches creative writing at Dartmouth University.

He's also the author of several books, including his latest, Still No Word from You, which is inspired by a series of letters written by his late grandfather while he was overseas fighting in World War II.

It's not every day we get to pique the mind of an Ivy League professor, so of COURSE we talked about writing. And because those who write must also read, we talked about books.

He gives some sage advice about reading that should hopefully take pressure off of anyone who feels obligated to read certain kinds of books.

This episode is brought to you by Salty Lama, an eco-friendly laundry detergent. Smell good while saving the planet and cutting clutter with their laundry strips. I've been using them for a few weeks now and am loving the scent. Plus it makes me feel good, knowing that we're doing the best we can to reduce the amount of plastic we use. Every little bit helps and you can, too. Click the affiliate link for a special discount code right HERE.

And be sure to check out A Place for Peanut, the official nonprofit organization of Freddy's Huge ASK Podcast. It's an equine rescue that saves horses from certain death at the hands of individuals who transport them to kill pens. My friend Megan and her team work tirelessly to rehabilitate these beautiful creatures. And you can help, either by volunteering or making a donation.
