Show notes

In part one of this double-pronged series, Travis breaks down his film analysis process. This week, hear him dive into key points on acting, directing, and lighting.

Acting

  • Is the character believable?
  • How does the character interact with other characters? Does it feel genuine?
  • Can you tell the actor is being vulnerable and inviting the character into themselves?

Directing

  • How does the director use the nuances of a shot/scene to convey tone?
  • Can you see the director's creativity at work, rising above the script?
  • How does the director use color and sound?

Lighting

  • How do shadows function in the film?
  • How does the lighting provide character insight?
  • Does the lighting tell you anything about genre or tone?
