Joining us today on our Lessons from Legends segment of the Finding Center Podcast is Andre Reed is a former professional football player. He played wide receiver in the NFL for 16 seasons, 15 with the Buffalo Bills (1985–1999) and one with the Washington Redskins (2000).
At the time of his retirement, Reed was second all-time in career receptions. He ranks near the top in nearly all NFL career statistical receiving categories. He went over 1,000 yards four times in his 16 year career, is 18th in NFL history in total career receptions with 951, 17th in NFL History in total career receiving yards with 13,198. He is also 14th in NFL history in total career touchdown receptions with 87. This is an awesome stat.
Andre is second in both Super Bowl receptions with 27 and Super Bowl yards with 323 total. And a testimony to both his physical durability and his mental toughness, Andre played in 234 games between ‘85 and ‘00, the 85th most games played by any player in league history. That includes punters and kickers.
Andre is a 7x Pro Bowler and a 3x Second Team All Pro.
In 2009, Reed was elected to the Buffalo Bills 50th Season All-Time Team.
And after being eligible for eight years, in 2014, Andre Reed was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Reed is currently a Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA) Ambassador after being inducted to their Hall of Fame in 2015. In addition, he leads a literacy program for underprivileged youth within the BGCA, called Read with Reed 83 Challenge.
