NUA Surgical is a multi-award-winning start-up dedicated to creating innovative surgical solutions in obstetrics and gynaecology. Headquartered in Galway, a global Medtech hub on the West Coast of Ireland, the company has developed the patented SteriCISIONTM C-Section Retractor, designed to improve ergonomics and make cesarean delivery safer by providing superior access and visualisation during surgery. The Founding team have over 50 years combined experience and are working with key opinion leaders around the world to answer the most pressing unmet clinical needs in women’s health. The company is currently raising investment to achieve the significant milestones of a First in Woman study and FDA Clearance.
Barry McCann is the Founder and CEO of NUA Surgical, an award-winning start up innovating in women’s health. Barry first graduated with a business degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2003 and spent the next decade in commercial and fundraising management roles, primarily in the not-for-profit and professional sports sectors. In 2017, he returned to his alma mater to complete a Masters degree in Medical Device Innovation, in parallel with a full-time Fellowship at BioInnovate Ireland (Stanford Biodesign Affiliate). It was during this time that he identified significant unmet clinical needs in obstetrics and gynecology, resulting in NUA Surgical emerging as a spin out company. He also holds diplomas in Anatomy, Project Management & Online Marketing. Barry lives in Galway, Ireland with his wife (an abstract artist) and their two children, Elsie and Teddy.
