And I’m back with another episode! Episode 12, ‘I am not my hair’ is out now! I Fall into Conversation with Lauren. Lauren found out she had Alopecia when she was 15. ‘Alopecia means loss of hair or baldness. In the UK, alopecia areata is estimated to affect about 15 in 10,000 people. Most family doctors will have seen at least one case, and you probably know of a friend or family member who has had it. Alopecia areata can occur at any age but about half of cases come on in childhood and 80% of cases come on before the age of 40 years. Men and women are equally affected. The condition tends to be milder if it comes on at an older age.’ (Taken from patient.info)Lauren mentions it was one thing having Alopecia 15 years ago with fewer resources available but even more so as a black woman. There is a wealth of knowledge out there now and you are not alone. Check out @beautyinbald @blkwmn_alopecia @joyafteralopecia on Instagram. In this episode, I also mention @thisisplanted which has been showcasing great hair results. Planteds’ product INCHES can help with Alopecia as there are several ingredients included in the formula which help repair damaged (not dead, damaged) hair follicles. So if your hair follicles are still alive INCHES can help nurture them back to good health. (They ship worldwide)NHS: Losing hair can be upsetting. For many people, hair is an important part of who they are. If your hair loss is causing you distress, your GP may be able to help you get some counselling. You may also benefit from joining a support group, or speaking to other people in the same situation on online forums. Try online support groups such as @alopeciauk. Disclaimer: As we are all keeping safe during this pandemic, all recordings are taking place at home. Apologies for the sound quality.
