Tej Has hidden Talents ! She is not just an Optometrist. Find out how she has diversified her income streams..
Tejinder Kahlon (nee Panesar ) Tej Kahlon currently works with a private consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital and in the primary eyecare and specific learning difficulties clinic at the Institute of Optometry. She has also previously worked in the Diabetic clinic at Central Middlesex hospital in 2004.
In 2006 she completed some volunteer work with Vision Aid Overseas to teach ophthalmic nurses how to refract in both Ethiopia and Zambia. In 2007 she worked as sole optometrist in the Falkland Islands.
She completed her MSC in clinical Optometry in 2009 with a distinction. She assisted in teaching UK Optometrists in 2002 as well as winning various awards in her final year of Optometry BSc at City University (Abnormal Ocular Conditions, best clinical paper and for Clinical work).
Tej has always loved creating art but it is only lately that she has had the time to indulge in her passion for creating portraits. She mainly works in graphite, charcoal and pastels to capture a likeness, not only of their physical features but also their character to create a special portrait from a photograph.

While her clinics were closed during the lockdown, she used her talents to offer two free pastel portraits for nominated workers in the NHS as part of Sky Portrait Artist Tom Crofts #portraitsforNHSheros initiative.

In addition Tej started work as a clinical contact caseworker with NHS Professionals to help with the current Covid 19 crisis. She is a wife and mum to two young children aged 5 and 7, loves keeping fit and cooking.
