On this episode, Lavinia Turian (MS2) discusses with Dr. Martin Smilkstein about what it is like practicing medicine on the Navajo Reservation at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility as part of the Indian Health Services. Dr. Smilkstein dives into detail about some of the challenges faced working in the emergency department, including a shortage of long term personnel and the high acuity of care seen. He also provides some insight on what it might be like for students and residents to rotate through a clinic on the reservation.
