Overview:

For Episode 16 we’re joined by Dr. J Thomas Kofoed, an Emergency Medicine Physician and recent Emergency Medical Services Fellowship graduate, to better understand what it’s like to be an EMS fellow and what type of career this training could lead to.

Resources:

During this interview, we’ll learn about a few topics that some may not be familiar with.

The concept of COMMUNITY PARAMEDICINE is to expand the roles of EMTs and paramedics in an effort to better utilize resources in underserved populations.  A report out of UC Davis found here explains this topic well and points out the possible benefits.

Online Medical Control describes the ability for an EMT or paramedic to contact a physician from the field and obtain instructions above and beyond their standing orders.

The Society of Academic Emergency Physicians Website maintains a fellowship directory of currently available EMS fellowships.

Thanks for following us and tuning in!
