Why this is a big deal for a soldier in training
In Israeli combat-unit training (especially infantry or special-forces tracks), the “pull-up test” (מבחן מתח) is one of the classic physical filters. You usually have to do a set number of strict pull-ups after being deliberately worn down — long marches with heavy gear, almost no sleep, and continuous field activity.
Doing 8 clean pull-ups after:
• a 23 km march in the field (with kit), and
• only 2½ hours of sleep
is a serious achievement. Most people’s upper-body strength collapses under that kind of cumulative fatigue. Passing it shows not just raw strength, but real mental toughness and the ability to keep performing when the body is already broken.
That’s why the message is full of pride — it’s not a routine gym score; it’s proof he held the standard under real combat-training conditions.
