Kaushik is a former teammate of mine and an Amazon veteran who's learned the secret of software development. Apparently a common
attribute of successful technical leadership is a focus on listening to people, earning trust, and getting buy-in. In a word,
persuasion. In addition to talking about the critical role of empathy in effective enterprise development, we get into
some discussion of popular metaphors in software development, if it’s possible to ever feel truly good about your codebase, making value
judgements about existing code, and how to remain calm when other developers are taking what seems to be an incorrect approach. At this point I was still convinced the phrase "Refactor In Blood" was the kind of name that projected
a sense of both fun and professionalism.
