Dropbear and Panda Save the World

We’re recording at Kensington Studio this weekend but we can’t seem to escape the snowblowers outside. We think they’re stalking us. Send help. Or…. less snow. Filming commercials in the time of Covid, sharks with feet are keeping Australia on their toes, Netflix has some hits and misses when it comes to Reality TV, and a tiny Koala gets a new lease on life thanks to... a Dentist??!?

We’re back after 4 weeks off - but THE SHOW MUST GO ON - albeit a little short of breath, but un-isolated this time, and just in time to completely ignore Valentines Day.  We discuss how Panda’s Covid prognosis quickly went downhill, plus Gorilla Glue hairdos and toothpaste mohawks, how to escape deserted islands with or without a TV crew, and we think back to those who saved our world over the last month. We appreciate all of you.

This week we go remote because Dropbear and Panda have been separated by COVID-19. Yep. Poor Panda caught ‘The Vid’ at her work in Health Services and is finding the positives in her positive; and Dropbear has been living in isolated exile to ensure it doesn’t spread. So this week we’re doing the podcast via ZOOM. Not ones to be downers, we found some fun news about some out-of-this-world samosas, honest menus, and food that is horrible to put in your mouth if you can’t taste or smell it.

A look back, look forward, with a flash-sideways. We do our best to do a quick review of 2020 without going completely insane - is THAT what gave Panda a headache? Or was it all the cookies she ate quarantine? At least we isolated, unlike… Canadian politicians. What will 2021 bring? Aliens, probably. Do these aliens have feet? Do they wear socks? We hope so! We’d love to give them some socks. Unless they have tentacles, then things might get awkward.

It’s our last episode before Christmas so we have to mention Christmas at least once or twice - in between stories of Cocaine Ghost Ships and Space Force Guardians! We re-examine our favourite music videos and delve into the best and worst holiday movies we’ve seen; and we really ‘SockRocket’ it to three lucky people who have helped save the world - spiders might or might not be included.

Episode 79 brings you the new & highly anticipated Sock Rocket Sock Jingle by Rob and WOW it’s mind-blowing! Panda’s head exploded two days ago and we still haven’t gathered it all back up yet. We’ve got Christmas Stars & collapsing telescopes in science news, graffiti artists winning lawsuits & Warner Bros being bros in art news. A YYC Choreographer won big at the UK Music Video Awards, and we’re sending socks to a mushroom coffin scientist in the Netherlands!

Episode 78 is a weird one. Soylent Green might actually become a thing—Grow-A-Steak is coming your way—to cannibalise, or not to cannibalise, AMIRITE? Panda wants to learn what her cat is really saying with Meow Talk, we review Truth Seekers, and Rob Mitchelson blows us away with a Sock Rocket Christmas Commercial we didn’t know we wanted.
