In the fourth episode of DriveTime Jason Soucinek and Walt Mueller look at lies the culture can communicate about sex. As a parent you have the unique opportunity to help your children navigate the many lies they hear and set them on a path that points to God’s plan as the sex maker. However, this can be difficult if we are not aware or lack the tools for better conversation. In our pursuit of sexual integrity is important we communicate truth while also tackling some of the ideas that might be misguided, dishonest, or not honoring to God.

Activities for those with children under 11:

Take time as a family to discuss God’s good intent for sex and to talk about the lies our culture tells us about sex. Are there any your children might add? Are there any you might add or delve deeper into? Find a time to connect outside of normal routines and engage in some of these questions.

Activities for those with children 11 or older:

First, every time you sit down for a meal this week, pray that God would help you wisely consume a healthy media diet as a family. Together, assess whether the shows you watch or listen to are helping you move toward sexual integrity or not – and then pray for wisdom and discernment as you eliminate the unhealthy media and devour healthier options. Utilize the 3D resources found on CPYU.org to help in this conversation.

Second, consider finding out what shows your teenager loves to watch. Ask if you can watch them together and then after the show is over ask if you can talk about what you observed. Find ways to engage in the content, good and bad, and use this as an opportunity to share your values and beliefs without criticizing your teenager or their show. Simply use it an exercise to learn more about their world and share how your values may be the same or different from what you saw or heard.
