Its August 1918 and the worst has happened. Matthew and William are critically injured.  Vera has once again been summoned from her lair to spread chaos and darkness throughout the land, only to find that perhaps she has met her match.  Mrs. Hughes takes pity on Ethel. Medical practices of the day leave much to be desired.  And Violet is sick of people telling her no.
