DCV LIVE is thrilled to have Verania Vizcarra, President of UC Merced College Democrats, and former intern at the Maddy Institute. Dr. Charles Nies on the Early Days of UC Merced, Higher Ed in the UC System, and His Vision As UMD's Chancellor
We are honored to have Dr. Charles Nies (PhD), the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at UC Merced, on the show. He served in various roles in higher ed such as the Vice Chair of the California Student Aid Commission, appointed by CA Gov. Gavin Newsom. He looks back at his role in shaping the youngest UC campus in California in its early days, his approach towards bridging campus growth and student leadership for the student body to thrive academically and socially. As a first generation undergrad himself, he shares what drove his passion towards his research in student development and leadership theory throughout his career as a double major in Psychology and Theology. He served as an important piece of the 2020 Campus Expansion and led the way for both the state and federal government to invest more in higher education.
