Title: Mangala Sutta Kp5, Discourse on Blessing

This talk, "Maṅgala Sutta Kp5 " was given by Sylvia Bay at the invitation of KL Dhamma Friends via zoom meeting on 21 Jun 2020.  This is the recorded, edited and annotated version is scheduled for release on 23 Jun 2020.

Maṅgala Sutta Kp5, Discourse on Blessing was given by the Buddha at the request of deities who wanted to know what is meant by blessings that are desired for well-being by both deities and humans.  This Sutta is usually taught as 38 blessings.  In this Dhamma sharing by Sylvia Bay, she reveals that each of the 11 stanza is complete within a certain context where stanzas #1 to #6 encapsulates blessings for lay life and stanzas #7 to #11 are the qualities and mental states which a practitioner needs to cultivate.  In the sharing, Sylvia explained that underpinning the blessings are the choices we make that create our kamma which create the conditions for our own blessings.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿

Sis Sylvia Bay has dedicated herself to the study and practice of the Buddha's teachings since 1992. 

She holds a BA (Hons) in Buddhist Studies from the Buddhist & Pali University of Sri Lanka, and was a lecturer with her alma mater. She also has a Masters in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced Studies. Since 2001, Sis Sylvia has been a regular speaker on Buddhist doctrines and their practical applications at local and regional Buddhist organisations. In 2013, she published her first book “Between The Lines: An Analytical Appreciation of The Buddha’s Life”.  She is now working on another book titled "Towards The Light: the Buddha's Guide to a Heavenly Rebirth".
