October is one of my favorite times of the year! The air is crisper, leaves change, and the lead-up to Halloween. I’ve celebrated Halloween my whole life and enjoyed every moment I got to dress up and be with my friends. As I got older and went into my faith, I began researching the origins of Halloween.
As I dug deeper into the history and how it began, I realized how it traced back to the Celtic festival in Samhain. It was a tradition held at the end of summer when sacrifices were made to the gods in Druid tradition. Halloween never involved wearing costumes, it was rather a solemn event focused on prayer and meditation.
In this episode, we discuss:
Feeling the disconnect between the celebration of Halloween and maintaining our faith
What are the true origins of Halloween?
Does Halloween still hold the same meaning as its origins compared to how we celebrate it today?
Why we wear costumes on Halloween
How religious families should approach celebrating Halloween
The significance of Oct 31
