In about 1745 George Washington wrote out more than a hundred Rules of Civility and Decent Behaviour in Company and Conversation as a school exercise. He did not compose these rules. Their source was from a French Text compiled by Jesuits in the late 16th century, intended for a world in which heirarchy and manners were immeasurably important. The books were referred to as Courtesy books and they spelled out behaviour and rules.
Join me with special guests Lord Rev Prof Rusty Lugnuts of OffTrack Syndicate, Erica from the Breakdown and our favorite Southern Californian Jen as we discuss these rules for civility in company and conversation.
