A Lingerie Line With A Twist

Kia Ora! Welcome to another episode of 30 minutes of DailyStraits.com. Our guest today is New Zealand-based entrepreneur Elisha Watson, the CEO and founder of Nisa, an underwear and leisurewear label which started trading in 2017.

Elisha got the idea to start her brand while working as a lawyer and volunteering with the Red Cross’ refugee resettlement programme.
Sharing a love of sewing with many of the women in the former refugee community, the idea of setting up a sewing workshop to provide employment opportunities took off from thereon.
Elisha later quit her job, set up a crowdfunding campaign, and then went about the process of hiring her first employee, buying machines and looking for a sunny space to base the workshop to start the brand.
She did all this while not having any fashion or industrial sewing experience at all!
So, today we are going to speak to Elisha on why she decided to start an underwear label and how one makes a profit through a social enterprise.
Among the things discussed in the podcast are:

  1. How did Nisa come about?
  2. Why underwear?
  3. What was the first thing Elisha did to get Nisa going?
  4. What is the brand’s USP?
  5. How does the company decides on new styles each year?
  6. What are some of the expansion plans for the company this year?

Without further ado, let’s listen to the interview here:
