It is said that facts and figures are forgotten by everyone after a short time, but a good story stays in the mind forever. This is also the reason why stories have been used by people for thousands of years to convey messages. Because each of these stories has a meaning and a purpose, that is, some kind of positive outcome to which the story leads. Most of the known stories are structured according to a certain pattern and that is the so-called hero's journey. The hero's journey almost always starts with an ordinary person who is asked to go on an adventure in an ordinary setting. Often the hero's journey is about things like a threat that must be averted to prevent terrible consequences. The future hero is usually ill-equipped and does not trust himself to be able to handle the adventure. But once he has accepted the task, he sets out and on his journey he usually meets a guide. And this guide has the task to show the upcoming hero how he can reach the goal despite all adversities. On his journey, the hero grows with his tasks, but usually it comes shortly before the end of the story to a serious setback.

Then suddenly everything is at stake and for a while it looks like the hero can't win. Only at the very end there is the showdown which leads to the fact that most movies end with a so-called happy ending and the hero can still reach his goal. This pattern for a story has been working for thousands of years. And actually, movies should not work at all for intelligent people. We all know that these are imaginary characters and that the people we see on the screen are actually just actors. And yet, when we see a good movie, we still sympathize. Why? Quite simply, it's in our nature! So deep that it even works when the characters on the screen are actually drawn or computer animated figures that we definitely know don't exist at all! One man who knows a lot about this subject is Donald Miller. Donald Miller has a motto and it goes like this: If you confuse, you lose! In concrete terms, this means that you can steer your own story towards exactly one realization.

Every hero in a good movie has exactly one goal. There are not many movies that present a hero who plans to learn a foreign language, lose 20 kg, save the world and adopt a puppy at the same time. For the concept to work, the story must not be too complicated and the hero must have a clear goal. Think about how you as a business owner can convey this one thing via an appropriate story. What is the one key thing you can do to help your target customers reach their own goal? Some brands are already doing this quite well. These companies try to convey a specific feeling to their own target customer group with the help of short video stories. This can be things like freedom, security or family happiness. But it can also be luxury, recognition or social competence.

They say that there are always basically three areas that you use to convey an emotional message. It is always either about health or wealth or relationships! Just take a look at some commercials on TV or YouTube and try to classify into which of the three categories your own offer fits best.
