The Stanley Hotel is a 140-room Colonial Revival hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, United States. It was built by Freelan Oscar Stanley and opened on July 4, 1909, as a summer resort.
Despite the peaceful history, the Stanley Hotel gained a reputation as a setting for paranormal activity. Especially after the fall of 1974, when writer Stephen King and his wife stayed over night at the infamous Stanley Hotel. His experience was the inspiration behind his book, The Shining.
