On November 30, 1989, the body of Richard Mallory was found off a Florida highway, and within a year investigators tied that scene to a series of roadside killings committed by Aileen Wuornos. She admitted to shooting seven men between 1989 and 1990 while working as a hitchhiking sex worker, describing the encounters as self‑defense against violent clients, against a background of abandonment, childhood abuse, survival sex, homelessness, and a long history of minor crimes. By the time she was arrested, the picture was of someone who had been pushed to the margins for most of her life and who finally met that reality with deadly force, leaving courts and the public arguing about whether she was a serial predator, a lifelong victim who broke, or both at once.
