In a makeup that was originally scheduled for earlier in the season but moved due to a tropical storm, UCLA brought the #2 team in the country to the Orange Bowl to face an up and coming Miami Hurricanes program. The Canes were coming off a blowout loss to Syracuse but Butch Davis had the pieces together for a solid re-build. Edgerrin James ran for a school record 299 yards leading to a Miami upset and knocked UCLA out of the hunt for a national championship.
