Hawaiʻi — a chain of volcanic islands in the middle of the Pacific… once home to a powerful, independent kingdom.

Before it became the 50th U.S. state, Hawaiʻi was ruled by chiefs, unified by a warrior king, and transformed by outsiders who arrived with religion, disease, and ambition. Within a century, a thriving Indigenous culture was nearly erased, its monarchy overthrown in a coup backed by foreign forces, and its queen imprisoned in her own palace.

This is the story of paradise lost — of King Kamehameha’s rise, the banning of hula, a literacy revolution, a stolen kingdom, and a queen who surrendered her throne to save her people… believing justice would come.

It never did.
