Classnotes Podcast (October 14, 2014) Families need to know how schools are doing, and they can use available data to give them a big picture view of their neighborhood public school. But parents can also dig deeper by surveying each other. In this episode, Aurelio M. Montemayor, M.Ed., IDRA senior education associate, describes how some family groups have conducted parent-to-parent surveys, finding common goals and concerns. The process is helping their schools listen to families and more importantly is helping families and schools partner together to meet the challenge. Aurelio is interviewed by Bradley Scott, Ph.D. director of the IDRA South Central Collaborative for Equity.Show length: Send comments to [email protected]Sign up for Classnotes e-mail alerts.ResourcesCommunity Conversations about Math Learning and TeachingBy Kristin Grayson, M.Ed., and Aurelio Montemayor, M.Ed.http://www.idra.org/resource-center/community-conversations-about-math-learning-and-teaching/Montemayor, A.M. “This We Know – All of Our Children are LearningIDRA Newsletter, Aurelio Montemayor, M.Ed.http://www.idra.org/resource-center/this-we-know/Sample survey for students about mathematics learning (doc)- Downloadhttp://www.idra.org/images/stories/mathematics%20survey%20student.docSample survey for parents about their children’s mathematics learning (doc)- Downloadhttp://www.idra.org/images/stories/mathematics%20survey%20adult.docStudent Presentation of Survey Results (ppt)- DownloadMath Survey Project – Projecto de la Encuesta Sobre Matematicashttp://www.idra.org/images/stories/HSmath_survey_report.pptPTA Comunitario Webpagehttp://www.idra.org/families-and-communities/pta-comunitario/Hosting Superintendents, Quizzing Candidates and Marking Maps – A Fully Engaged PTA ComunitarioIDRA Newsletterhttp://www.idra.org/resource-center/hosting-superintendents-quizzing-candidates-and-marking-maps/Community Leaders Discuss How PTA Comunitarios Give Voice to Parents in their Children’s EducationIDRA Newsletterhttp://www.idra.org/resource-center/community-leaders/IDRA’s Family Leadership PrinciplesBy Aurelio Montemayor, M.Ed., IDRA Newsletterhttp://www.idra.org/resource-center/idras-family-leadership-principles/Your feedbackWe welcome your comments and questions to the podcast.
