While John is exiled to the island of Patmos, Jesus reveals himself to John in all His glory as the leader and head of His church. Though John is astonished at what he sees, he is commissioned to write specific messages to each of the 7 churches of his day. These messages form the counsel to churches who will face typical temptations in various seasons. As such they provide insight for a church to examine itself in light of Jesus's commands and character.
