Fernandez, who grew up in Chicago, has been the Cougars’ most prolific long-distance runner this decade. In the fall, he ran the second-fastest 8K time in school history and earned a berth at the NCAA Division I Midwest Region Championships. He’s also a computer science major with an eye on a career in cybersecurity.
