In this episode, Talethea introduces Bahia Overton. Bahia is the owner of Bahia Honey skincare products. But before she started her business, she already had her career established as a child and family therapist. She now runs a nonprofit organization, the Black Parent Initiative, and is very passionate about it. Bahia shares about herself, her career as a clinician, and how she started her business with skin and hair products. She also talks about finding balance in a busy schedule and how to take care of yourself. And she gives some tips on what you can do to make yourself look and feel refreshed. Episode Highlights04:35 – My daughter had these weird patches on her skin, and nothing was working for her. And my friend, a naturopath, asked me why I didn’t just make my own.08:00 – When you have eczema or super dry skin, by the time your skin starts to be able to heal, the cream is already absorbed. Mine is slow absorption, which gives the skin just a little bit of time. 09:30 – When I got into social work, my desire was to work with black and brown children. That was the goal. They need to feel more comfortable in their skin in this society, emotionally and spiritually to feel like being seen and heard. 13:50 – I did not mean to do it on the side. I meant to just do it to help our friends and to make sure my child is good. In 2015 a woman posted “before and after” her baby’s leg, and it got about 8000 views. Then I got about 1600 orders in two days. 23:53 – I had the opportunity to build the house that I live in. And I built the entire house around my tub. I got to be in a very wet city, a very white city, every day.
