The Hartford Circus Fire  July 6, 1944:  It was just after D-Day, and some of the most intense fighting of WWII was going on. But the people of Hartford Connecticut, especially the children, were looking forward to taking their minds off the husbands, fathers, brothers and sisters serving overseas—Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus was in town. They had no idea that the crowd of estimated at 10,000 people, mostly mothers and children, were about to experience the worst Circus Fire in US History. 168 people would lose their lives. Six of them have still to this day never been identified.
