Proposed new deadline for submission of newly deemed tobacco products. A more than 4 year entension.

Revisiting the PMTA and MRTP process.

The application and approval process as it stands is really not clear to anyone.

This extension is not going to affect any other rules as written. (IE warning labels and ingredient listings,those are as is origanllly written)

This is all proposed and rules will need to be promulgated.

A rule regarding products standard for e liquid this includes the agency looking at flavors.

This is interesting as we should have a discussion about the role flavors play in allowing smokers to switch to a low risk tobacco product.

It's nice to see someone at FDA willing to onvestigate the issue and not weighed down by decades of ideology.

The other anticipated rules or gudance we believe will include battery safety.

Very low nicotine cigarettes.

This proposal has been around for awhile,most recently it got a shot in the arm by NIH giving 100 million for studying the issue.

The press has run with the idea that the FDA will lower the nicotine content but the idea that harm reduction needs the heavy hand of regulation instead of truthful information is troubling.

Any sort of FDA or legislative relief could cause opponents to fire back harder than ever.

This could lead to states and municipalities pushing regulations much harder as they think the Federal Government has dropped the ball.

Extending PMTA rules is just one facet of the regulation process. The government still has all of the same regulatory powers as before and none of the other regulations have changed.

It raises all sorts of ethical questions about the efficacy of doing this as we discovered with low tar and light cigarettes smokers inhaled the smoke deepr into the lung causing issues in the deeper lung tissues.
