We recently had a chance to talk with Scott Berman about cannabis startups and fundraising. He is the founder of the Panther Opportunity Fund, which was formed to make early-stage equity and debt investments in private companies that focus on the legal Cannabis industry and are ancillary to the Cannabis plant.
In certain instances where the Fund feels opportunities that touch the plant are exceptional on a risk-adjusted basis, those opportunities will be reviewed, and investments may be made. In addition, the Fund seeks out investment opportunities where expansion capital is needed and will lead or co-lead Series A investments into those who have demonstrated market adoption.
To support cannabis investors, he also launched The Panther Group, an advisory firm that helps institutions navigate the nascent but emerging cannabis industry. Those are looking to be on the right side of the maturation curve as this industry unfolds.
