With borders open and people rushing to get their passports renewed, it's clear that travel is well and truly back! Travelling is so often a goal for people in recovery, but how do you know if you're ready for it? And where do you start in even planning a trip when you're so used to routine and structure in recovery?

On this episode of Candid Conversations, we speak with Amy and Stefan, Lead Mentors in EDV's Peer Mentoring Program. They share their lived experience of travelling while in recovery, the lessons they learned and strategies they suggest for anyone considering packing their bags and taking a trip.

Topics discussed include:

  • How to know when you're ready for a trip
  • Knowing your 'why'
  • What kind of trip to plan for (hint: start small!)
  • Being assertive about your needs while travelling with others
  • Balancing flexibility and structure with meals
  • Viewing travel as a positive challenge
  • Dealing with photos
  • Contingency planning, including your return home
