On this episode I talk with Christina Karalekas-Ressa about her work in the early childhood field, how her personal discoveries in social-emotional learning became the foundation of her children's book "Power of Choice", and her recent adventure into motherhood.
Christina Karalekas-Ressa has worked in the field of education for 15+ years. She currently serves as a Special Education Preschool Teacher for the South Huntington Union Free School District and as a Field Specialist for Fordham University. In years prior, she's served as an Early-Childhood Instructional Specialist for schools throughout Manhattan and the Bronx creating instructional tools that were and are still implemented district wide. Prior to her time as a coach, she taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, and worked as a home-care aide for children with disabilities.
She received her Masters degree in Early-Childhood Education at Fordham University and her Bachelor's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Iona College. As a self-published author of the book "Power of Choice," and as a new mom, she whole-heartedly believes in the power and importance of social-emotional learning, both at home and in the classroom.
