Building Up Women In Property

Rebecca Bangura
No-nonsense, practical tools to help you show up confidently as a woman in an industry built for men. Overcome self-doubt and overwhelm to gain clarity and a clear plan so you can unapologetically create a career and life you love.
Who do you want to be?
Self-identity is often wrapped up in what we do, rather than who we are at the core. We tend to define ourselves by that specific role in our relationships or our job title at work. However, knowing who you are separate to these things is crucial to self-discovery and living a life that is truly aligned. Today, I’m building upon last week's conversation on reinvention by asking the question that we don’t often ask ourselves: Who do you want to be?I believe that identifying the person you are now, as well as the person you want to be, is the key to making confident decisions for your life. Once you know how you want to show up in the different aspects of your life, be it career, personal relationships or spirituality, you have the power to live and act in a way that truly reflects your desires. In this episode, I encourage you to take some time to recognise where you are right now, at this moment. What defines you? What matters to you? What motivates you? Identifying your core values will be your guiding light, shaping your behaviours, interactions and ultimately your choices. I share my own core values and how they inform the way I approach all the different areas in my own life, including who I choose to work and connect with. Living intentionally as the person you aspire to be involves aligning your actions with your values. This may mean shedding old identities or beliefs that no longer serve you. I encourage you to visualise your life as this authentic self in all your interactions, whether at work, home or in personal relationships. Embracing self-reflection and vision setting will allow you to redefine yourself beyond your achievements or job title.Remember, we are all works in progress, and you don’t need to be perfect. It's all about the journey of becoming the best version of yourself, and to begin showing up in a way that truly aligns with your most authentic self. LINKS:Previous episode mentioned: Is it time for a reinvention?Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:     https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:     https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook:   https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

Is it time for a reinvention?
Today, we're diving into a topic that many of us can relate to at various points in our lives—reinvention. Last week, we pondered whether we were on track for our desired destinations. Today, we explore what happens when our goals and aspirations change, or the path we’re on no longer resonates with our current desires. The messy middle of life isn’t the most inspiring place to be, and we often want to avoid talking about it. We feel stagnant, unsure of where to go next and a little lost. However, change is inevitable, and it’s during times of uncertainty and challenges that we grow the most. So if this stage of life sounds familiar to you, remember that you’re not alone.  In this episode, I share with you my own journey to finding my purpose and the right path for my career. I talk about achieving a life that looked great on paper some years ago, but left me feeling hollow and disconnected from my success. Accepting this reality and opening myself to new possibilities was challenging. The process of deep self-reflection and soul-searching wasn’t comfortable, but led me to the wonderful and fulfilling journey I’m on now. So, when is it time for reinvention? If you feel like you’re standing still, stuck in Groundhog Day, or unsure about your next steps, these are signs to consider a new direction. Changes in industry, technology, or personal circumstances can also trigger self-reflection. Sometimes, it's your natural growth and evolving interests that push you toward change. I encourage you to push aside fear and explore reinvention, driven by your desires and not others' expectations. Reinvention doesn't mean burning bridges; it's about evolving into the next version of yourself.  Be open to your own development, recognising that we’re in our careers for 40 or 50 years now. You’re not the person who started your career in your early 20s, and you certainly won’t be the same person in your 30s or 40s. Change is natural, and embracing it will only help propel you forward as you navigate your life and career. LINKS:Previous episode mentioned: Are you on track?Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

Are you on track?
We've officially stepped into October, and with roughly 90 days left of the year, I thought it would be a good time to step back, reassess and see where we stand on the path to our goals.Whether you've been crushing your goals or you're feeling a bit off track, this episode is for you. We're going to dive deep into three powerful questions that will help you gain clarity, motivation and direction to finish this year strong.Firstly, are you on track? It can be easy to start off the year with some big sky goals and a whole lot of energy. However, as life’s challenges come and go, it’s even easier to move away from the plans we had set for ourselves. If you’re one of the lucky ones who can answer this question with a resounding yes, then pat yourself on the back and keep on soaring! Acknowledging your success is important in fueling motivation and creating that forward momentum. However, for many the answer will be a no, and that’s okay! Perhaps we were trying to achieve too much in too many areas, or we weren’t actually clear enough about what our goals were. Maybe life just got in the way, and setbacks were unavoidable. Whatever the reason, it’s important to really look inward and identify where and why things might have gone astray. So, what things didn’t go very well? There is always something to learn from our challenges, and being able to recognise where things fell short will help us course correct as we continue forward. Embracing setbacks with a growth mindset is key to development - remember, it’s not just about where you are, but where you’re headed. I then encourage you to ask yourself what you could do differently for the remainder of the year. With a few months ahead of us, there is still time to commit to an area you want to focus on. Whether it's your career, health, relationships, or personal growth, choose one aspect of your life to prioritise. When we spread ourselves too thin, it can be tough to make significant progress. No matter where you are in your journey, there's no better time to start than now. By answering these three questions and setting a clear intention for the final stretch of the year, you'll be amazed at the progress you can make. Remember, a lot can change in just a few months when you're committed to your growth and goals. So join me today and let’s get on track to finish this year strong together!LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

Am I in a Toxic Workplace?
The workplace should be a hub for productivity, learning, and camaraderie. Yet, for many, it turns into a pit of stress and politics. In this episode I pull back the curtain on the grim reality of toxic workplaces and the toll they take on individuals. If you've ever felt stifled, stressed, or simply curious about this widespread issue, this episode is a must-listen.Toxicity in the workplace isn’t always blatant. It’s the subtle, insidious occurrences that often go unnoticed but leave a lasting impact. I dive deep into this, highlighting the often ignored signs - from broken promises by the leadership to a lack of psychological safety. I also share my experience in a toxic workplace, the effect it had on me, and my breaking point of hitting a wall – both literally and metaphorically. I want to share how important it is to recognise when one's work environment is starting to take a toll on their mental well-being.Once you’ve idenitifed you’re in a toxic environment, you need to be able to find your way out so I share some coping mechanisms to help you navigate these treacherous waters. From setting boundaries to seeking support, our guest outlines concrete steps one can take to safeguard their well-being. The narrative is clear: no job is worth sacrificing your mental health, and sometimes, the bravest step is to walk away. While toxic workplaces might not be the norm, they certainly aren't anomalies. Anyone can find themselves in one but no one deserves to be there. I hope this episode equips you with the information you need to prioritize your well-being.LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

How to deliver your message clearly
Do you struggle to get your message across to your team or clients in an effective way? Do things often get lost in translation when it comes to how your message is received? Well, you’re not alone. Missed communication proves to be a prevalent issue within many workplaces and in today’s episode, we’re exploring strategies on how to deliver your message clearly and in a much more impactful manner. Many of us assume that we’re being crystal clear in our communication, and are often puzzled as to why it’s not being received in the way we expect. As a DISC certified practitioner, I understand the importance of focusing on who you are giving information to, rather than only on what you are saying.Understanding what the natural preferences are of those receiving your message is key, and I give you an overview of the four main personality styles the DISC model describes:DominanceInfluenceSteadinessConscientious I run through the different traits associated with the DISC personality styles, and encourage you to reflect on the individuals within your work environment. Is the person you’re communicating with assertive and results-driven? Or do they prioritise connection and collaboration? Perhaps they are more methodical and prefer to absorb information slowly.Whoever your audience is, it’s important to bring emotional intelligence into the equation and approach the situation with empathy. How you read a person and adapt your communication style accordingly can make all the difference in reaching them effectively. We won’t always nail our communication on the first go, and that’s okay. As long as we’re embarking on this journey with a growth mindset and a willingness to learn, we will continue to improve. So, I encourage you to think about how you share your information and what might need to change to ensure a better experience for everyone involved. LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

Leadership Evolution vs. Revolution
Welcome to today’s episode, where I’m delving into the topic of evolution versus revolution in leadership. After recently reading Jim Collins' remarkable book Good to Great, I was deeply inspired by its insights and wanted to share with you my learnings from it. I also discuss my own thoughts on embracing continual growth and learning to become the best leaders we can be.When it comes to exceptional leadership, the journey to greatness doesn’t happen overnight. Research has shown that outstanding companies outperforming in their market wasn’t due to a big launch or rebrand - the success came through positive, sustained changes over the long term.I talk about leadership being a process that requires time and conscious effort to expand in knowledge and experience. Too often we see people wanting to take big step jumps in their careers, without really taking the time to think about how they can enhance their skill sets or develop more knowledge. The key here is adopting a growth mindset, and I encourage you to ask yourself important questions about what kind of leader you want to be, and what steps you can begin to take to get there.I talk about the importance of a healthy framework of support within an organisation that can enable emerging leaders to grow. What is the culture around having open conversations? Is there psychological safety and genuine trust in the organisation, where people can speak up and support each other? I also discuss how a supportive environment can help promote new perspective and innovation in leadership roles, and help people truly develop the necessary skills for their appointed roles. So, whether you're a seasoned leader, an emerging one or someone who's keen on understanding the dynamics of evolving leadership, this episode has something valuable for you. Remember, the journey to greatness is not about rushing toward a fixed destination; it's about embracing the evolution that transforms you into the leader you're meant to be.So, hit that play button and get started on your journey towards becoming the best version of yourself as a leader in your industry. Your future self will thank you for it.Happy listening!LINKS:Jim Collins’ book: Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap and Others Don'tArticle by Jim Collins: Good to Great Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

BTS - What to expect next
Today I’m doing something that I haven’t done a lot on the podcast before, which is sharing some personal thoughts I’m grappling with, the challenges I’m facing and the new ideas that I’ve been exploring about our industry. I also take you behind the scenes and share what to expect next, both in my business and on the podcast. As a property project manager and coach, I have loved being able to support women one-on-one to build their careers and navigate the challenges that come with working in the property industry. However, as my work has expanded to developing teams and leaders within organisations, I’ve seen a need to create better places of work for people across the board. I talk about the need to shift from only giving lip service to topics like equity and diversity, to actively engaging in conversations and working to implement lasting changes. While supporting women to create positive change within our industry still absolutely aligns with my vision, my passion for helping facilitate employee wellbeing more broadly has grown. I share what this means for my business and how I’m working to further embody the values that I bring to my work. Addressing challenging topics head-on can be scary. I admit that I’ve personally shied away from discussing certain issues on the podcast that have always been on the list. I’ve experienced the fear of getting it wrong, causing offense or sharing a view I haven’t fully articulated for myself yet. However, I’ve come to realise that it’s a disservice to both my audience and myself, because even though these conversations are messy, they are crucial. To really see change and come up with the best solutions to move our industry forward, we need to share our ideas. We must poke and prompt one another, whether we agree with the opinions being shared or not. We mustn’t be afraid of getting it wrong but accept that we might, and be open to growing from our mistakes. My commitment to my beautiful podcast community is this: to face up to the difficult stuff, to welcome all perspectives and to give myself permission to be working things out.Join me today so we can begin the types of conversations that lead us all to better workplaces, true wellbeing and more fulfilling, rewarding careers. LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

5 Lessons to My Younger Self
I recently gave a presentation to a group of women in the early stages of their careers, who asked me to share my best advice on what I’ve learnt throughout the journey of my own career. I’ve put a lot of thought into this question, and today I run through the five lessons I would share with my younger self, in the hopes it could help change your career trajectory for the better. We know that in any area of life, confidence is key. I believe there are a number of skills we need to develop in order to grow this and begin to show up more confidently. Building confidence is a process that takes time, and I discuss what I’ve found to be crucial in cultivating self-belief. I talk about how factors such as gender, ethnicity and orientation can add layers of difficulty, and how you can work to overcome them, no matter your circumstance. There’s no sugarcoating it - consistency can be boring as hell. However, while it might not be the most glamorous aspect of career growth, I believe it is the fastest way to success. Consistent effort and dedication are what distinguish the good from the great, and I share my thoughts on how doing the grunt work and focusing on the day-to-day grind can be a real differentiator for people in the job market.  Over the years, I’ve learnt the value and significance of having a dynamic support system. Surrounding yourself with peers, mentors and advocates who challenge and uplift you can lead to tremendous personal and professional growth. While self-motivation is important, I discuss how having external accountability can push you to excel beyond your comfort zone.I’m a huge believer in education and am constantly investing in myself for my personal and professional growth. While I’ve leaned heavily into traditional education, I recognise there is no one right way to develop our skills. A combination of different learning methods tailored to your career goals can yield exceptional results. However you decide to do it, I encourage you to know that you are your greatest asset, back yourself fully and get to making a plan. Bad days and challenging experiences in the workplace are painful, yet can be invaluable teachers. While nobody hopes for hardship, it inevitably arises, and I reflect on my own journey of weathering storms throughout my career. I share my advice on how to view trials as catalysts for growth, and how these moments shape your character, refine your values, and enable you to thrive in the face of adversity. If you’re in the early days of your career and looking to build yourself a strong foundation, this episode is for you. I encourage you to take hold of the lessons I’ve learnt and apply them to your own life, knowing you’ll start to see the beginnings of a fulfilling career that you truly love.LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions

How to Stop Self-Sabotage
Today I’m shining a light on self-sabotage, a topic I personally know all too well. It’s something I also see crop up time and again in the lives of my clients and peers, and know just how damaging its effects can be. In this episode, we’ll explore the different forms of self-sabotage, discuss how to normalise it and talk practical ways to stop it from taking hold in our lives. At its core, self-sabotage is the tendency to undermine our own efforts and goals, often without us even realising it. While the process of self-sabotage is one of self-protection, it actually causes us to engage in unconstructive behaviour and pull us away from what we really want. It can manifest in two primary ways: creating problems that conflict with our objectives or failing to take necessary actions that lead to success. Many of us experience self-sabotage at various points in our lives, and it's essential to recognise the patterns of behaviour that often go unobserved.I discuss overcoming self-sabotage by developing self-awareness and identifying the habits that hold us back. Common signs of self-sabotage include:ProcrastinationPerfectionismAvoiding feedbackIndulging in self-doubtComparing ourselves to othersRefusing helpFrequently changing directionWhile it’s important to recognise the ways in which self-sabotage manifests, it doesn’t end there. We must implement the tools and strategies that will help us take control over our actions and change the ways of operating we often default to. I take you through seven key steps you can take to overcome self-sabotage, which include things like clarifying your goals, mastering executive function and challenging perfectionism. I also discuss the importance of shifting our mindset to one of growth, in order to keep us moving forward to those big goals we have for ourselves. Remember, self-sabotage is a common human experience, and it's okay to encounter it. By understanding the ways self-sabotage shows up in your life and taking intentional actions to move forward, you can break free from its grip and create the outcomes you truly desire. Take one step at a time, and you'll see progress towards your goals. Be patient, be persistent and remember, you've got this!LINKS:Book a Free Career Strategy Coaching SessionWebsite:https://www.beautifuldisruptions.com/ LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccabangura/ Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/iamrebeccabangura/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulDisruptions
