Did you know some things aren’t actually what we call them? Take cinnamon, for instance – most of what we buy is actually cassia, a totally different spice. Nutmeg and mace come from the same plant but are used differently. Vanilla flavoring often comes from synthetic vanillin instead of real vanilla beans. So next time you’re spicing up your food, you might be getting a little something different than you thought!
