Proverbs in 365 DevotionsProverbs It's Not About The HoneyR AylorIn today's passage we find Solomon giving a kind of mini parable about honey. The reason I think of it as parable is because a parables purpose is to get across a truth by association of something in the world… in this case honey. But everything in a parable is not necessarily eligible for analyzing as the lesson… We have to discern what truth the writer is focusing on.For example Solomon is not saying we should make honey our diet 24/7. I expect that would give us diabetes. That would not be good.Solomon actually gives us another mini parable about not eating too much honey. Proverbs So actually neither of these mini parables are about honey.. This last one is focusing on not seeking our own glory… and our verse for today is focusing on how wisdom is good… not like honey in that you shouldn’t eat too much… but the characteristic of honey in the way it taste. That is the thrust of the application Solomon is making. When we savor sweet taste of Wisdom it should light up our eyes and bring a smile to our lips…Wisdom is found in Gods word. Yes, we may hear it from a friend or at church or in a million different places… but if its real wisdom it is in agreement with Gods word. And that's where we should go to verify all the so called wisdom we hear in the world and that's where we should do our spiritual dining every day. … But really… Solomon is saying it is important that we have a taste for it. It should be good to our palate.. Our spiritual taste buds should come alive when we go to Gods word.Ill close today with a few verses about savoring Gods word.Daily Spiritual Diet:Breakfast -Psalm Mid-morning - Psalm Heat of Day -John Lunch -John Afternoon Boost -Psalm Supper -Isaiah Bedtime -Psalm Midnight Snack -Psalm When I awake -Isaiah Savoring that first Bite -Psalm True Satisfaction -Matthew Eat Continually - Psalm
