This episode features the story of Sue ("Mama Sue") Garrett, an unlikely social media sensation and the grandmotherly face of Mama Sue's Southern Kitchen. I stumbled upon her Facebook videos in 2020, at the height of the pandemic. That year, at the urging of her daughter, she began recording herself cooking simple family recipes in her kitchen. Her intent was to help young moms who were, be necessity, preparing more meals at home.I was quickly enamored with Mama Sue and her southern cooking, and apparently I was not alone. What's not to love about a sweet Alabama drawl, a wide smile, a positive attitude, and a simple recipe for something yummy? Much to her amazement, Mama Sue attracted thousands of followers who eventually persuaded her to publish a cookbook. Then, in 2021, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her unlikely cooking ministry became an even more powerful testimony. Her followers grew exponentially, as did her ministry. Her third cookbook is nearing publication.Mama Sue is all about serving up encouragement with every recipe. She gently reminds her followers to "be salt and light," even as they navigate the hardest days.Recently Mama Sue shared a recipe for key lime pie that I'm planning to try. I talk about it, and I've linked it below.Salt, light and key lime pie....it doesn't get any better than that! Listen in!
