Bitch, Why?

Neeta Thadani & Gaia Malin
Two bitches talking about books, movies, plays and all other kinds of art made by humans, for the rest of the bitches out there. Hosted by Neeta Thadani and Gaia Malin, (the aficionado art critics that white, cis, heterosexuals don't want you to know about) this podcast asks the essential question of the media we consume: bitch, why did you make that?
Twilight Part 1: One Man's Trash is Another Man's Glitter
This week, we covered the first two installments of the Twilight Saga, Twilight and New Moon! We start the episode discussing misconceptions about how acting works and why Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were unfairly maligned for their performances in these movies. Gaia talks about the *cinematography* in the first Twilight movie and questions why American movies only signal foreign-ness with British accents. Neeta goes full fangirl in this episode, reveals maybe too much information about their middle school experience, and gets excited talking about literally everything. We discuss How Twilight is a symptom of the problem of toxic relationships in media and not necessarily the problem itself, how it didn’t deserve all the backlash it got (stop being mean to teenage girls!!), and that we should be more concerned with how the Quileute tribe was horribly misrepresented in Stephenie Meyer’s world. Gaia admits they might be Team Jacob and the friendship may be on the line, Harris is informed of the Breaking Dawn Birth Scene, and so much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! Hunger Games: When Revolutions Become Un-Revolutionary
This week, we covered The Hunger Games franchise, Suzanne Collins’ YA Dystopian Masterpiece! We start the episode talking about tarot cards, maligned women, and how history should not be perceived in a binary. We get into how the Hunger Games movies are a direct contradiction to themes of the books in their execution and how they “sex up” the revolution in a way that obfuscates the original intent of Madame Collins. We cover the impact of Katniss as a heroine and why we still look to The Youths to Save Us All. We investigate why most women’s happy endings in YA are directly connected to the bearing of children and how not everyone is emotionally equipped to be a parent, especially when you’re working through the PTSD of two death matches and an entire revolution! Gaia cannot pronounce Johanna, so decides to pronounce it three different ways each time, Neeta has a hard time trying to have shallow thoughts during Bitch Time, and so much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! Bridgerton: When You're Sexy, You Don't Have to Be Interesting
This week, we covered Bridgerton, Shonda Rhimes’ Regency Gossip Girl straight sex fest! Of course we must (and do) gush over Madame Olivia Rodrigo’s masterpiece “Drivers License” and why adults should simply leave the kiddos alone. We get into the politics that Bridgerton doesn’t have the energy to touch and the nuances of consent in a show where the main characters Must Bang Constantly. We cover the shows many queer lost chances and every single character that the narrative does dirty. We uncover the dirty underbelly of eye candy and the pros of Shakespeare during sex. Gaia concludes that (in order to turn a profit) we must sell the fan base to One Direction, and so (so) much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! The Prom: The Homophobia is Coming from Inside the House
This week, we covered The Prom, a musical-to-movie adaptation directed by Ryan Murphy. We get into how this movie fails at adapting from the source material, why it doesn’t qualify as “camp”, and whether or not straight people can play gay roles. We, of course, discuss the controversial James Corden performance, Neeta talks about how to handle POC coming out narratives, and Gaia discusses the importance of actually giving homophobia its weight and the very real struggles of teen activism. We also somehow get on the topic of queer teen style and conclude that Harper from Wizards of Waverly Place would have been a gay style icon today and so much more, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! Wonder Woman 1984: Coup d'é-Cheetah
This week, we covered Wonder Woman 1984 and if Queen’s Gambit represented how we felt going into the first week of the new year, Wonder Woman 1984 definitely represents how this year is currently going. We get into the implications of the Steve Trevor body swap, how this movie fails because of its emphasis on spectacle over substance, and why the fad of setting movies and tv shows in the 80’s might be slowly going away. Gaia gets the Kristens mixed up, Neeta references the ‘Imagine’ Video way too many times, and we somehow still end up relating the world-ending events in this movie back to the current state of affairs, this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! Queen’s Gambit: Chess Has Always Been Sexy
For our first episode of the new year, we covered Netflix’s overnight success, Queen’s Gambit! We start the episode by talking about Gaia’s next farm adventure and Neeta pulls a tarot card for 2021! We get into discussion of the show by talking about how it became successful so fast, how starved we were for good media, and how good art is often not made individually. Neeta talks about how painfully white the show is and has a lot of feelings about Jolene. Gaia reflects on the barriers to entry in the chess world and the constructs of etiquette in so many other fields. We talk about how nice the subtle queer representation is in this show, nine rewrites not even being that many by playwriting standards, and how this show did Jolene so dirty this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’. Halloween: Bury Your Banh Mi
This week, we covered Halloween, from our Horror Franchise Showdown in October, with Harris of Harris’ Hot Takes! We start the episode talking about ski lift accidents and bleak video games and then open up a discussion about Halloween (1978) and Halloween (2018) and whether or not Michael Meyers being virtually unkillable is successful or a part of the franchise that is no longer satisfying. We also discuss the way slasher movies have changed since the first Halloween to the most recent one and talk about Carol Clover’s essay on The Final Girl. We mourn our favorite bisexual couple, Vicky and Dave, debate about the meta-humor in newer slashers since the Scream franchise, and so much more this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! Die Hard: Inside the Mind of a Centrist
This week, we covered Die Hard, the most action-packed Christmas movie out there. Truly this is our most chaotic episode yet: Gaia just got their wisdom teeth taken out, everyone mixed up the time zones, and Neeta accidentally punched Cameron in the face. Take a shot every time Gaia screams!! We veer off into a long conversation about police abolition and copaganda, vigilantism, and how this movie takes us into the mind of a centrist. We also discuss genre after coming out of our Happiest Season conversation and if it even matters if Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie. Happiest Season: Lesbian ‘Get Out’
Y’all asked for it so here it is! This week we covered the Hulu produced Christmas rom-com, Happiest Season starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis, directed by Cleo DuVall! We start the episode talking about gnomes, stripper poles, bleeping out the term “white men'' and the [REDACTEDS] in our lives we can’t name on the podcast! Write in and tell us what we should cover to kick off the New Year! We talk about the toxicity of the relationship in the movie, how hot Kristen Stewart is, and the wasted potential of the "first queer Christmas movie" because of how painfully mediocre it is (plus we get another signature Gaia movie problem diagnosis) and so much more this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)! IT Part 2 with Adelynn: Everyone Talks About the Child Orgy But No One Talks About the Sociopath Handjobs
This week, we’re finally back with special guest and resident twink, Adelynn Anderson to finish off our series on IT! Gaia is home from the farm and we have finished reading the monster of a book that is the IT Novel just in time to recap the entire thing for Adelynn. We start off the episode talking about collaboration as the only way to make good art and asking why Sofia Coppola doesn’t include women of color in her movies. We jump into the book by discussing why Stephen King feels compelled to write about hate crimes and slurs as a straight, white man, how they did Mike dirty in the movie, and why, even with all of this, the book is still “marginally” better than the movie (shocker, we know). Neeta mispronounces ‘auteur’ multiple times, Gaia has a breakdown over the sociopath bully children giving each other handjobs while also being homophobic to each other, we decide the only man allowed to write self insert films is Ari Aster and so much more this week on ‘Bitch, Why?’.Be sure to leave us a review and email us at [email protected] if you have a topic you want us to cover (or just to say hi)!
