"I'm Afraid I'm Going to Die"
During my time at the aid station, Doc provided extensive training to prepare me for medical scenarios, both there and in the field.I was feeling good about what I had learned, but Doc knew I needed more experiences. To get those experiences, he arranged for me to receive additional training at the 91st Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai. I Don’t Believe in Gravity
I was walking with my friend the other day. I was hoping we would take our time so we could enjoy the beauty of the area, but he seemed to be in a hurry and I had to work hard just to keep up with him.“Can you slow down a little bit?” I asked. He didn’t slow down. An Act of War
In a short government report issued during the Regan Administration, the Department of Education described the state of public education in America. It was not a pretty picture. The failures of the American educational system were easy to identify and so detrimental to the future of America that the report indicated … “If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war. As it stands we have allowed this to happen to ourselves.”A Nation at Risk, 1983It’s important to note that this report was issued 40 years ago. Have our schools improved since that report was released? Or have we gotten worse? This is a public episode. Visiting Las Vegas
As much as I love the Big Sky Country, last week I left my beautiful part of the world and went to Las Vegas in order to attend a couple of conventions. It was hard to give up the cold and snow of Montana and brave the sunshine and blue skies of Nevada in December, but I was willing to take it on. This is a public episode. "I See Nothing!"
For those of you who are older, you may remember the TV show “Hogan’s Heroes.” It was a sitcom set in a World War II prisoner of war camp. Yes, a sitcom. While the Allied prisoners plotted and carried out many anti-Nazi activities, the main German soldier assigned to watch them — Sergeant Schultz — would occasionally stumble onto their activities. He didn’t want to turn the prisoners in because they had become friends, but he didn’t want to get in trouble with his superiors, especially Colonel Klink. So, he would mutter, “I see nothing! I hear nothing! I know nothing!”Then he would quickly disappear. Many people in our society today have taken that same approach. This is a public episode. “A Good Decision”
Explore a fascinating chapter of the American Revolution in "A Good Decision," my Substack episode that delves into the 1782 production of a Bible in English, a significant moment often missed in history classes. Discover how Robert Aitken's Bible, known as the "Bible of the Revolution," symbolized both religious independence and resilience against British constraints. Ideal for history buffs and those interested in the intersection of government, culture, and religion during the Revolutionary era. This is a public episode.
