In which Joel and Basie discuss “At dawn my heart said…” by Jahan Malek Khatun, translated by Dick Davis. David edited/translated the book we worked from, called “Faces of Love: Hafez and the poets of Shiraz.” Basically all the information we had about the form and its conventions, and about the history of both Khatun and Shiraz was provided by Davis via the book. It’s a super cool book. Basie liked it so much she bought it.
