As a public school teacher, Rachel Levy keeps in mind that every student of hers is someone’s child and every student is worthy of respect and dignity. She cares about her students and their learning unconditionally. She keeps in mind that she serves the public and that she is tasked with the sacred responsibility of educating the children of the public.
And that encapsulates her approach to public service.
Rachel is the proud daughter of two civil rights lawyers, she was born with this sense of sacred responsibility. Rachel was raised to be civically engaged and to be a contributor. They raised her to vote in every election and to pitch in when it counts, help out, and use her advantages to help everyone around her. And after graduating from Wesleyan University, Rachel felt that sense of civic engagement when she decided to become a public school teacher.
Preserving and improving public education became her life’s work. And it was that sense of sacred responsibility that drove her to get her doctorate in educational leadership and policy at VCU, and to return to the classroom, so she would never forget what it is to be on the receiving end of the policies that are created.
But this week…Dr. Rachel Levy is …. ”Becoming Disciplined.“
