The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, says Australians are “disappearing” as the country’s birthrate falls to a record low. Australia has been below the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman for almost 50 years, but that number hit a record low of 1.48 in 2024. The average age of mothers was 25 in 1971, and now it’s 32.
