On this Episode of Be Unexpected Wyatt and Jake interview the  Assistant to the Head Coach of Creighton Men's  Basketball Steve Merfeld. Coach Merfeld talks about how he got into coaching  High School basketball in Milwaukee, which eventually led him to start his college coaching career at Bowling Green State University. He coached at Hampton university for 6 years, these years played a huge part in developing him as a coach. In 2001 he took them to the NCAA tournament as a 15th seed, where they upset number the 2 seed Iowa St. Coach Merfeld shares his experiences on what recruiting was like for him when he first got into coaching compared to how it is now. Coach Merfeld talks about what it was like going from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East Conference for Creighton Basketball.  For Coach Merfeld it is all about building relationships with the players on and off the court.

Coach Merfeld has been an assistant for Creighton men's basketball for 13 seasons and is a huge part of the success Creighton has had over the years.
