Beginning his austere life of faith as a pilgrim traveling around Italy, William was eventually beset by bandits who took what little possessions he had. Undiscouraged by this, he determined that he was meant to stay put and become a hermit. In time he formed a religious community. Seeing that his fellow monks did not want the extremely austere life he longed for, William left and founded several more monasteries becoming known for his many miracles.&nbsp;&nbsp;Saint William of Vercelli 1085 - 1142.
