"Cleo Arevalo is a conceptual artist working with multimedia to produce videos, prints, ready-made objects, and installations that examine the globalized oppression of the masses. As a native of the US/Mexico border, she produces pieces that analyze the pre-established meaning of language as perceived through a multicultural filter. It compares images appropriated from the internet along with video performance to address the conditions of labeling that weaponize information. Arevalo uses art as a catalyzer for a dialogue discerning the complexities of language as her work reveals a sense of rupture in the validity of the collective meaning we assign to the symbols that influence our individual negotiations in politics.
