Compelling podcast
I learn something every time in this excellent podcast on public health issues that are mostly hidden from public view. This season on the real stories behind health deficiencies on the Navajo reservation focuses on one compelling problem after another; Dr. Gounder is an excellent host and narrator, the story is filled with information but is kept moving along so your interest never flags. I like her telling the stories in the words of the actual people affected, not as a lecture. The 3rd episode on cancers resulting from uranium mining left me moved and angry. You will be too.

Real expertise
This is a quality podcast. Dr. Gounder is smart, thorough, and also interesting. I learn a lot that I didn’t know.

Really thoughtful and through
I’m working through season 3 now, and it’s incredibly thoughtful. I love the deep look at a really complicated issue as opposed to our usual knee-jerk reactions that either the government is evil trying to take away guns or that the people who own them are evil. Digging deeply into the issues makes it much easier to imagine solutions. Thanks, Celine!

This is the Gun Debate Primer
As others have mentioned, this podcast gives a point of view from every side of the gun debate. From the POV of the rural hunter, to the inner city police, to the trauma unit, to the mental health expert, to the gun shop owner, to the military, the podcast gives layers upon layers of information and true human stories. It tells how guns can raise some person’s self esteem and be a key identification of their life and culture. It tells about the terror of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It tells of those who profit and only care about profit. It tells about those who love the sport and want to only educate about the sport. It dives into suicide and suicide prevention. This is an essential American podcast. Please listen to it.

If you would like to live in a country that is not played by mass gun massacres, school shootings, and deadly inner-city violence, if you would like to live in a country where our honorable veterans don’t take their own lives with guns, then this is what you need to know. If you want to act to make things better, this is what you need to know. If you want to help direct your Representatives in Congress, state officials, and lawmakers at every level to make constructive changes that will save lives, then this is what you need to know. This is What you need to know about a crucial and urgent matter of life and death. This is what we all need to know and it will help us do what we all need to do.

A thorough, substantive exploration of the critical social issues impacting health
This is a heavy-hitting, beautifully produced, NPR quality podcast that delves deeply into the often ignored social determinants and historical precedent of health in the US. I have listened to every episode and have been impressed by the experts that Dr. Gounder has invited to the show, the subjects she has chosen, and how she puts the story together. Highly recommended to any students, practitioners, and fans of public health, medicine, the history of medicine, and social justice.

Excellent listening, whether you're in health/wellness/fitness, or an outsider to those industries and just interested in the topics. Provides a wide range of valuable perspectives in an easily digestible format. Tons of really relevant and important discussions happening in this series, definitely a must listen!! I like that it showcases perspectives from a wide range of experts, too; you really get a well rounded dicussion of the issues.

The podcast I'd been waiting for.
In this time of rising death, empty rhetoric, continual stigma and insufficient response, and as someone who spent most of the last ten years working in and with communities most impacted by drug use, its associated harms and the war on drugs, I'd been waiting for a tool (hopefully a podcast), that provided an accessible introductory overview to the connected and underlying issues, that brought in the voices of practitioners, pioneers, directly affected folks and academics to bring digestible but nuanced introduction. Extremely helpful tool for folks connected to this work to share with friends, family and other community. Likewise for folks looking to actually grapple with what's going on, why, how our prevailing narratives helped create and perpetuate this public health crisis, what is working and/or bringing promise, where we go from here and who needs to be involved in charting that course. I'm not saying it's perfect, (not challenging the term addicted babies or babies born addicted when not having agency excludes you from one, arguably two of the 11 criteria for a SUD comes to mind), that's pretty in the weeds, and more than balanced by the real dearth of this conversation being presented and packaged in such and intentional, thorough way that remains intelligible for folks who are genuinely interested in better understanding. Thank Dr. G! This is truly a gift.

Well balanced and well done
Dr. Gounder does an excellent job of looking at tough issues and all the influences that affect them. The episodes I have listened to, including suicide in young people the opioid crisis, consider the individuals and what drives them to these conditions, the society influence, the medical and mental health systems, the social networks, family support, socioeconomic influences, community influence, and prevention among other contributing factors. She lays a strong groundwork that to me indicates that these problems will not be solved through one magic bullet, but through multidisciplinary efforts by all of these factions working together. Very well done and well balanced.
