Start with awareness
As with every episode we start with an awareness. In this case it’s an awareness of the fact that we are always gathering knowledge.
Thermostats
My thermostat tells me the humidity if I walk over to it, but even though I can ask and manipulate the temperature, I can’t ask about the humidity. So it has the knowledge, but it can’t impart it.
You’re a human, not a thermostat
Let’s talk about your knowledge, and your intentions with it.
Teaching
Teaching is a skill unto itself. You can be a world class neurosurgeon, but be horrible about imparting that knowledge to others.
A crime?
I think it’s a crime if you gather knowledge and don’t impart it—even to yourself. So if you do one thing, think about the knowledge you are gathering, and if you impart it in some way.
