Rich talks to Clare Kenney of the B.C. based Mudgirls Collective about alternative housing and the collective. Together they talk about the unique way in which The Mudgirls have found to deal with the exploitive nature of our current society, specifically regarding the issue of housing inequality.
The Mudgirls are a consensus-based, non-hierarchical collective of women builders from the Southwest Coast of so-called BC who specialize in natural, local, and salvaged materials to build homes and other things, and believe that people have a right to provide themselves with shelter in a way that does not have to involve the overlapping modes of exploitation, subjugation, discrimination and destruction that our culture teaches us is normal, and that we can figure out a better way together. The Mudgirls offer workshops that welcome all genders, they can be also be hired as a crew. They are the authors of Mudgirls Manifesto : Handbuilt Homes, Handcrafted Lives (New Society 2018)
