Artists for Society x Addendum

Artists for Society is a Marianopolis art club, but as they say, with a twist. The Club’s mission is to help local artists struggling financially due to the prolonged lockdown.

Today they invited Maryam Nadimi onto the show to talk about Persian illumination! Maryam Nadimi obtained a professional degree of Persian calligraphy very  young. She learned the art of Tazhib (Persian art of illumination and  gilding) under the direction of a famous professor in Iran. Nadimi moved  to Canada in 2007.

MORE ON PERSIAN ILLUMINATION:

Islamic Art of Illumination, also known as the art of Taz'hib, was applied to  various articles during the Ottoman period, including pictures, royal  edicts and insignia, tiles, chests, gun holsters, shields, and even  costumes prepared for the Sultan and his family. Today, illumination has  extensively been applied on architectural surfaces, book covers,  manuscripts, carpets, textiles, ceramics, glass and wood panels, and  metal works.
