27 words make up the second amendment, and yet, thanks to a few well-placed commas, a full reading of the text is often absent during any debate on gun policy.
But regardless of where the commas fall, it’s still just one amendment. Understanding it in full is vital because securing our individual rights has always been inextricably linked to our ability to defend them collectively.
Quite simply, “The people” and “the militia” are the same. Or at least, they used to be...
